The Penn Libraries Toolbar is a custom-made web browser extension for University of Pennsylvania students, faculty, and staff.
It provides a persistent search box that allows you to search:
  • The Penn website using Google
  • Penn Library databases, e-journals, FAQs, Library web pages and more using FindIt!
  • Franklin Library Catalog by Title, Keywords, Author and Journal Title
  • VCat, the Library Video Catalog, for Videos and DVD Collections in the Penn Library
  • Databases such as EBSCO Megafile, JSTOR, ABI/Inform, PubMed and WorldCat
  • Google and Google Scholar
It also provides links to frequently used Penn and Penn Library websites, Webmail, Ask a Librarian, Blackboard and the Penn Library social bookmarking tool, PennTags.

Derik Badman has links to some Search Plugins that we don't have. And some that we do. I'm not sure how he did these

My favorite extension. Lightweight, fast and flexible - it allows to query web services by context menu of the browser. Queries may contain various parameters of currently browsing web page: selected text, URL, host etc. Be sure to look at the library labs page for search plugins to add to conquery.

mozCC is an extension for Mozilla-based browsers, including Mozilla Firefox, Flock, Mozilla and Netscape, which provides a convenient way to examine Creative Commons licenses embedded in web pages. It’s at least twice as good as View Source.
McAfee siteadvisor tells you how safe a site is based on their tests of how much spam you will receive from the page, etc.
Some laptops will be provided, but please bring your own laptop if you have one: As the web is becoming a more flexible and robust research environment, the library is finding ways to use new technologies to more efficiently find and use research level resources. Attendees will be introduced to the library's groundbreaking tool for storing, sharing and organizing research links, and will learn how to customize Firefox to make it an efficient tool for research.
A very easy way to add needlesearch-like ability to firefox. Quite cool.
